Covid-19 Precautions

At Franklin Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine, our primary focus is the health of our patients.  We are taking action in response to Covid-19 in order ensure that we are providing a safe environment for our patients.  We are open and operating in full capacity.  We are closely monitoring the reports and recommendations put out by the leading health organizations in the United States, including OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), the CDC (Center for Disease Control), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Tennessee Department of Health.

We are taking steps that both satisfy and exceed the guidelines from the above mentioned organizations.  Franklin Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine has implemented the following steps:

  • Sanitization of all rooms, surfaces, and equipment with an EPA registered hospital grade disinfectant.  This is being used in between each appointment.
  • Continuous operation of advanced air filtration units.  These units use PECO filters, which are capable of destroying viruses and other pathogens in the air.   These are placed in both the waiting room and the treatment room.
  • Ensuring that only one patient is in the facility at any point in time.  Our appointment scheduling protocol has been revised to increase the gap between appointments.  To assist in accomplishing this, please wait outside until your appointment time.  The door will remain locked until each scheduled appointment time.
  • Not treating patients who meet the following criteria:
  1. Currently have any of the following symptoms: Fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, or other flu-like symptoms.  This excludes people who have a known condition, such as allergies, where a symptom has been chronic and long-lasting.
  2. Have recently been in contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19.
  3. Have traveled outside of the United States in the 14 days prior to their appointment.
If you have any questions regarding the steps we are taking, please do not hesitate to call us at (615) 756-3122.

Moxibustion and Dysmenorrhea

A study conducted by Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has determined that the use of moxibustion at specific days during a woman’s menstrual cycle can decrease pain associated with menstruation. Dysmenorrhea or painful menstruation is a big problem for many women. This study used moxibustion, an accessory modality of TCM, to treat the pain associated with menstruation. The study and its systematic review showed moxibustion treatments were more effective at relieving pain only when the moxibustion began prior to the onset of actual menstruation. This is also the theory behind Traditional Chinese Medicine, that it should be used as preventive care. The efficacy of using moxibustion during the premenstrual time period holds great promise for those who are debilitated by dysmenorrhea. continue reading »

Acupuncture for Boosting Your Circulation

Healthy blood circulation is a vital component of life for human beings. Without proper blood flow, life would cease to exist. Blood isn’t the only thing that’s important, it’s what the blood is carrying that makes circulation so important. Blood carries fresh oxygen, hormones and nutrients that we absorb from our food. Without these components, the organs and tissues of the body become depleted, weakened and eventually stop functioning. Any blockages in the veins and arteries can deprive the brain and the rest of the body from the needed oxygen, which can then lead to a plethora of other medical issues. continue reading »
